If you’ve been trying to access your Apple account from the web, or any Apple App Store across all platform then you probably saw a message saying something along the lines of “An Unknown Error Occurred”
It looks like Apple is having a major issue with its App Store on all platforms, the outage include App Store, Mac App Store, iTunes and iBooks Store.
Visiting the Apple System Status Page shows a bit more details on what the outage is affecting and since when:
Multiple Store Services – All users are affected
Customers may be unable to make purchases from the App Store, iTunes Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store.
Also Apple was having some problem earlier with it’s iCloud service, but according to them its solved now.
As far as I can remember this is one of the longest outages that i’ve witnessed. Almost 6 hours and still going.
Apple talked to CNBC and told them the reason behind this downtime:
We apologize to our customers experiencing problems with iTunes and other services this morning. The cause was an internal DNS error at Apple. We’re working to make all of the services available to customers as soon as possible, and we thank everyone for their patience.
